There are almost 300 German Colleges through out the
country, more famously called the Hochschulen that admits nearly 2,
00,000 new students each academic year. The first German College
was founded in Heidelberg in 1386. However, time has brought many
alterations in the higher educational system in Germany since then. The modern
German Colleges has undergone radical changes.
One of the most important features of German Colleges is its
free college tuition and automatic admission to a desired University. A student
has the opportunity of selecting his own program, professors / advisors and also
the time of lecture and seminar as per their convenience. Moreover there are no
academic fees that are taken from the students. It is free in nature. The
German Government grants finance to these Colleges
for handling administrative, infrastructural and knowledge impartment
responsibilities. This traditional process of imparting education without any
charges is called Bildung zum Nulltariff in German.
There are various types of programs available in this German College
– some are purely academic based like, Medicine, Law, English, German,
some are Vocational, some Technical based. The duration of these courses are
also varied. Where as some lasts 4-5 years, there are also few courses that
offer shorter and practical oriented. There almost 400 different programs in
nationwide Colleges and work autonomously concentrating more on
research and teaching.
German Colleges
also have international partnerships with
overseas educational institutions and corporations. The German Academic Exchange
Service (DAAD) facilitates academic exchange for these undergraduates and
graduates in the course duration.
